Urban Water (formerly Urban WISH) seeks to identify opportunities for innovation in urban water management for North Texas and beyond. We hope to advance economic and environmental sustainability across communities by working with a diverse set of organizations at the local, state, national and international levels. Our intention is to better identify how our Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension personnel can support the community and advance a sustainable urban water future.
Stakeholder engagement and collaboration
We recognize that collaboration with local stakeholders is critical to the development of research and extension programs that can be both responsive and impactful. Our team plans to engage key stakeholders in meetings, workshops and other activities both at the Texas A&M AgriLife Center at Dallas and in communities across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Through these activities, we hope to advance sustainable and deeply integrated partnerships and collaborations. As part of this work, we will focus our attention on the role of citizen science and the science of extension for better community engagement and impactful outreach. We are passionate about maintaining a strong foothold in the community where we can offer substantial engagement and support to North Texans on a wide range of urban water issues.
Alignment with international and national agendas
Urban Water also aligns with the international and national agendas on urban sustainability and urban water and will place the research conducted at the AgriLife Dallas Center at the forefront of global scholarship. The Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex provides a critical place to examine the epic challenge of urban water systems in a fast-growing metropolitan area under dynamic water-climate conditions. Therefore, our efforts are strategically aligned with and connected to local and regional needs while engaging larger scientific communities in the United States and beyond working at the forefront of urban water sustainability.
Integration of Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension efforts
Texas A&M AgriLife is the largest comprehensive agriculture program nationally, bringing together a college and four state agencies focused on agriculture and life sciences within the Texas A&M University System. Urban Water is a collaboration across Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension to address the current and future challenges of urban water security and sustainability for North Texas and beyond.
Texas A&M AgriLife Research is the state’s premier research agency in agriculture, natural resources and life sciences. AgriLife Research conducts hundreds of projects spanning many scientific disciplines to deliver life-sustaining and industry-changing impacts to citizens throughout Texas and around the world. AgriLife Research also includes the Texas Water Resources Institute, the unit advancing the Urban Water program.
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is a unique education agency with a statewide network of professional educators, trained volunteers and county offices. It reaches into every Texas county to address local priority needs.
